Dubai: The Dubai Chamber of Commerce, one of the three chambers operating under Dubai Chambers, has launched the Indonesian Business Council to strengthen trade and investment ties between Dubai and Indonesia. This initiative aims to foster new business opportunities, facilitate collaboration, and enhance economic relations between the two markets.
With the addition of the Indonesian Business Council, the total number of Business Councils under Dubai Chamber of Commerce has now reached 59. The council’s establishment reflects the increasing appeal of Dubai to Indonesian businesses and investors. Non-oil bilateral trade between Dubai and Indonesia exceeded AED 10 billion in the first nine months of 2024, highlighting the robust commercial ties between the two economies. Meanwhile, the number of Indonesian businesses registered as active members of Dubai Chamber of Commerce grew by 60% in 2024, reaching 160 companies by December.
The first annual general meeting of the Indonesian Business Council was recently held at Dubai Chambers’ headquarters, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss ways to strengthen collaboration, organize bilateral business events, and exchange market insights.
Maha Al Gargawi, Vice President of Business Advocacy at Dubai Chambers, stated: "Business Councils play a important role in strengthening trade and investment ties by providing interactive platforms for dialogue and cooperation between business communities. We are committed to empowering Business Councils to help companies explore new opportunities, expand collaboration, and enhance the private sector’s competitiveness ultimately driving sustainable economic growth in Dubai.”
As part of its efforts to enhance trade relations with Indonesia, Dubai International Chamber opened a representative office in Jakarta in 2023. In May 2024, Dubai Chambers also organized a trade mission to Southeast Asia, which included 200 bilateral business meetings in Jakarta between 17 Dubai-based companies and Indonesian firms.
During this mission, the ‘Doing Business with Indonesia’ forum attracted a record 472 participants, including high-ranking officials, business leaders, and Indonesian companies eager to explore partnership opportunities with Dubai’s business community.
Dubai Chamber of Commerce’s Business Councils play a pivotal role in representing businesses and investors from specific countries, fostering bilateral trade, and strengthening strategic economic partnerships between Dubai and global markets.
